UK Gathering 6 - 8 June 2008 : Ossett, West Yorkshire
A Hemingway Gathering 2008 took place between 6 - 8 June 2008 based at Ossett, Wakefield organised by Ron Hemingway, Pam Ibbotson, Nick Shelley and Dave Kelso. Discussion is taking place as to whether to hold a similar event in 2010 or 2011.
The Gathering included an informal dinner on the Friday evening in a local Italian restaurant and on the Saturday there were three presentations followed by lunch at the former West Riding Union Bank and then a guided tour of some former "Hemingway Homes" associated with the family of Edmund Hemingway. The three presentations were :
- Hemingway DNA Project - Maurice Hemingway
- John William Hemingway the brewer and his family - John Robert Hemingway
- Edmund Hemingway and family - A photo description - Nick Shelley
On the Saturday evening a more formal dinner was followed by a short presentation by Joseph Hemingway, master carver.
After a leisurely breakfast on the Sunday, the group went to Wakefield Cathedral for a very traditional Eucharist (part in Latin) and then on for a most enjoyable lunch at the Spencer Arms, Cawthorne. Pam Ibbotson showed a group around the Parish Church at Cawthorne.
