Hemingway-UK Mailing List
The Hemingway-UK Mailing List is managed by me and hosted by RootsWeb. Its main aim is to facilitate discussion and sharing of information in relation to Hemingways of the UK. It does not cover Hemingways in other countries. However, for the avoidance of doubt, anyone from anywhere is welcome to join the list membership and participate, provided that they stick to the subject of Hemingways in the UK.
Subscribing and Unsubscribing from the Mailing List

Purpose of the Mailing List
The Hemingway-UK-L Mailing List is an e-mail list for genealogical research (in its widest sense) on the subject of Hemingways (and variants) in the UK. The important part of this description that I want to convey is that the Hemingway must be in the UK or be a first generation emigrant - ie have DIRECT AND IMMEDIATE roots in the UK. A message along the lines of - "I think I am related to Ralph Hemenway of Roxbury USA" is not one for this Mailing List. Can I also ask that wholesale re-posting of previous messages is to be avoided - if you are answering or referring to an earlier message, some judicious cut and pasting is more appropriate.
If you are having difficulty in subscribing or unsubscribing, or have any other "domestic" type problem with the list or its contents, then please Email me direct and not the Mailing List and I will help you out.
"ON TOPIC" subjects include Hemingways and all variants of the UK or who themselves emigrated having been born somewhere in the UK, locations customs, dialects and all other similar subjects associated with Hemingways of the UK.
"OFF TOPIC" subjects and therefore not to be posted on this Mailing List examples include Hemingways not born in the UK, impolite or rude replies to earlier postings (alternative views must be expressed politely) and general subjects that have no connection to Hemingways of the UK.
Please ensure you send your messages in plain text without pictures or hypertext formatting added. If you do attempt to do this, your message will get bounced automatically and not make it to the list (although I will be sent a copy). You will by now have formed the impression that this is a fairly tightly focused and potentially low volume, trouble free Mailing List!
For those that want a place to lodge enquiries or make comments about Hemingways with no geographic boundary, I draw your attention to the existence of two chat sites or forums. I have included their addresses in the “Useful Links” page on my website.
So to summarise the two most important elements, please remember that this Mailing List is on the subject of Hemingways of the UK and everyone must be polite. These are not negotiable, even though other issues are.

Digest or Normal Version of the Mailing List?
Hemingway-UK-L is for individual messages to be delivered to your e-mail address. As each subscriber to the list sends messages to the list address, you will receive a copy of the message. To subscribe send an e-mail message to: Hemingway-UK-L-request@rootsweb.com with one word in the body of the message: subscribe
Hemingway-UK-D is for a digest of several accumulated messages to be delivered to your email address. As each subscriber to the list sends messages to the list address, they are put into a digest to be delivered later. The digest is generated approximately once a day and delivered to digest subscribers. This option is handy for people who don't want multiple messages to accumulate in their mail box. To subscribe send an email message to: Hemingway-UK-D-request@rootsweb.com with one word in the body of the message: subscribe

Good Luck with your Research
Good luck and do have fun - but please remember that this is a Mailing List on the subject of Hemingways in the UK and first generation emigrants from the UK (ie those with direct AND immediate connections to the UK). Please do not post messages about Ernest Hemingway or great grandson of Ralph Hemenway etc. These are messages about Hemingways in the USA and are off topic on this list. And finally, please do not re-post previous messages in their entirety unless they are brief, but be selective in the cut and pasting.
If you have any problems, get in direct contact with me and I’ll do my best to resolve the issue as soon as is possible.
Maurice Hemingway
