Hemingway Wills
Wills are a very important resource for the genealogist and because of this I want to make as many as possible available to all. I have been collecting Wills for a number of years now, but because they are sometimes expensive to get hold of, I don't have all that many. There are probably around 110 Church Court Wills (pre 11 Jan 1858) and around fifty or so Civil Court Wills (post 11 Jan 1858). I have however transcribed all Will and Admon abstracts from the Probate Office for the Civil Wills and these give you a fair amount of information and enables you to work out if there is a Will that you should be seeking. At the moment, these Civil Court Wills cost £5.00 (2005) and can be obtained in person or by post from the Probate Office. I get to the office around once every two weeks or so and I will be happy to get a copy of a Will for you and post it on.
To go to the indexes :
Proving generally happened between four and ten weeks after the death, but there are instances of this happening some thirty years after the death.
