John HEMINGWAY of Dewsbury  :  Died Feb 1699

 

In the name of God Amen, know all men by ----------- that I John Hemingway of Dewsbury in the county of York, cordwainer being for nothing weak in body but in full and perfect memory praise be to God do make this my last will & testament, ffirst of all I bequeath and commit my body to the ground whereof it was made and I do commit my soul unto God that gave it and trusting in my Saviour Jesus Christ to have a joyful and glorious resurrection with him at the last day of Judgement and for this estate that God pleased  to hand me and forgiveness after my decease do make this my last will, ffirst after my funeral expenses and my lawful debts discharged my will and mind is that my wife Martha Hemingway shall have one third of all my goods and chattels according to the law my will and mind is Abraham Hemingway my eldest son shall pay or raise to be paid unto my youngest daughter Martha Hemingway the sum of ten pounds of good and lawful money of England to be within one year after my decease, my will and mind is that my son John Hemingway my second son shall have ten pounds either in money or in corns within one year after my decease by my executors, my will and mind is that my son Thomas my third son shall have the house and barns and all that belongeth which is now in his possession with all ways and water courses thereto belonging, my will is that my son Richard Hemingway my fourth son shall have ten pounds paid to him within a year that he hath served his apprenticeship and my will is that Joseph Hemingway, my youngest son shall have ten pounds paid to him by my executors within a year that he hath served his apprenticeship, my will is that my daughter Mary Green  shall have ten pounds after my decease as she shall stand in ---- and if any of them die before the money be paid that the money equally dealt amongst them all that be alive and do make Martha Hemingway my wife and son Thomas Hemingway to be my joint executors of this my last will, in witness hereof I have set my hand and seal this 10th day of January Anno Domini 1698 and the tenth year of our Sovereign Lord William by the Grace of God King of England Scotland and Ireland Defender of the Faith
