John Hemingway, par of Halifax. (Walterclough?)
To be buried in the churchyarde of Sanctis John
Baptiste of Halifax. Itm my best beast
for my mortuary as custom is. Also I
will that Elene my wife have all my landes during her life and after the
decease of my said wife I give unto my son a close of land called JOHN RIDING
during his life. Itm to John Hemingway
4 stones of wool. Residue of all my
goods not bequeathed or then given, my debts & funeral expenses paid &
done, I give to the said Elene my wife, Ric Hemingway & James Hemingway my
sons which I make my executors. Thus
witness Richard Heley, John Stokes & Richard Hemingway.

1. I
suggest that James was later of Dewsbury, & finally of Gomersall. I also suggest that Richard might be the
father of Thomas bp & bur in 1539, &/or Richard involved in a dispute
with the Lacey family 1557-1561 over the homestead Northroyd ~ Southowram,
&/or Richard buried 1594
2. The
close named JOHN RIDING was also mentioned in the 1597 will of John Hemingway
of WA(L)TERCLOUGH.
