[Will of Thomas Hemingway deceased]
In the name of God, Amen, the 25 day of Aprill and in the yeare
of our Lorde God 1571.
I, Thom[a]s Hemingway, of Southouru[m] w[i]t[h]in the p[ar]ishe
of Hallifax, cornema[n], seike in bodye but of good and
p[er]fecte Reme[m]braunce, praised be God, do ordeine and make
this my last will and testamente in man[ner] and fourme
Folowinge.
Firste and principallie I give and bequeathe my sowlle into the
handes of Allmightie God, trustinge and Also Faithfullie
belevinge to have full Remission of all my sinnes in the
merittes of Christes passion most blessed, and my bodye to be
buried in the churche yearde of Hallifax amonge the bodies of
other Faithfull people of Christe.
Also I wyll that Richard Hemingeway my sonne shall have all my
Ryght and enterest of my Farmehold and tenemente, and all the
Com[m]odities p[er]teininge to the same, w[i]t[h]in the
Townshipp of Southowru[m], paienge therefore to Edwarde
Hemingway my sonne œ6.
It[e]m I give to my sonne Edwarde 40s in the handes of Edward
Sunderland,
It[e]m 53s 4d in the handes of Adam Fairowe,
It[e]m 20s in the handes of Thom[a]s Savell de Coppley,
It[e]m 20s in the handes of Thom[a]s Nayler, and œ3 13s 4d in
the handes of Will[ia]m Wager, in full Contentac[i]on of his
porc[i]on.
It[e]m I bequeath unto Agnes Hemingway my dowghter œ13 6s 8d in
full Contentac[i]on of hir Childes porc[i]on.
Also I geve and bequeath unto Ales Hemingeway my dowghter œ13
6s 8d in full paiemente of hir childes porc[i]on.
Also I will that Margarete my dowghter, wyffe of Edward Lyster,
shalbe maid oute to be equall w[i]t[h] the other sisters.
The Residewe of all my gooddes, Chattells and deptes, after my
deptes beinge paid and fun[er]all expens[e]s deducted, I Frelie
give and bequeath unto Thom[a]s Hemingway and John Hemingway my
sonnes, whom I do Constitute and appointe my trew and lawfull
executors of this my last wyll and testamente in man[ner] and
fourme abovesaid.

On the same day the said Dean [ie same as in previous entry; 22
May 1571; Dean of Pontefract] certified that he had approved the
said will, sworn by the witnesses etc, and administration of the
goods of the same was committed to the executors named in the
same will, they being sworn etc, saving however all right
whatsoever etc
