Michael Hemingway of Clayton, Bradford : 1624
In the name of God amen. The Fourteenth Day of December Anno Domini 1623.
I Michael Hemingway of the township of Clayton in
Bradford dale in the County and Diocese of York being at the presente time sick in body but in good and perfect memory
thanks be to God do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner
and form as follows First I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my
Creator assuredly trusting and
faithfully believing to gain full and fair remission of all my sins through the
merit and passion of Jesus Christ my
blessed saviour and redeemer. And by
him to have everlasting life. And my body to be buried
in the churchyard of Bradford. And concerning such worldly goods as God of his bountiful
mercy has bestowed upon me it is my will and mind that my debts and funeral be
paid for out of my whole goods. Item it is my will and mind
that Sybil my wife have one third part of the rest of my goods as good right to
her belongeth according to the custom of the province
wherein shee liveth The
other two partes residue of my goods I give and
bequeath to Marie and Sibell my two daughters equally
to be divided between them. And whereas my will and
mind is to confer Michael Edward and Abraham my three sons with my land It is
my will and mind and I appoint Sibbell my wife Tutor
to my three sons and two daughters And if it fortune Sibell
my wife to die during the tyme of anie
of my said childrens’ minority it is my will and mind
and I appoint Edward Crabtree of Clayton aforesaid and Richard Best of Northowram Tutors And Guardians to see to any of my Said
Children as shall still be at under age
during the time of their minority And I will and appoint Sibbell
my wife Executrix of this my last will and testament In witness whereof unto
this my presente testament I have sett my hand and seale the day and yeare above
written. These beinge witnesses John Holinge, John Field, Samuel Stead, William Brookesbanke, John Milner
