Elizabeth Hemingway of Cawthorne  :  1791

 

In the Name of God Amen. I Elizabeth or Betty Hemingway of Cawthorne in the county of York widow do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say, first I will order and direct that all my just debts the expenses of and attending my funeral and the charges of the Probate of this my last Will shall be first duly paid and satisfied by my Executors hereinafter named. Then I give and bequeath unto my daughter Martha the wife of Isaac Brierley the Legacy or sum of five pounds to be paid her at the end of one year next after my death. I give and bequeath unto my son William Hemingway all of my stock of woods being in or upon the premises in Cawthorne aforesaid now in my own immediate occupation as tenant of the same premises to Mr Jonathan West and which wood shall not at the time of my death have been appropriated to any particular use and Lastly all the rest residue and remainder of my goods chattels and personal estate I he absolutely give unto my daughters Mary and Elizabeth Hemingway equally to be divided between them as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said daughters Mary and Elizabeth Hemingway joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me made and declaring this to be my last. In witness whereof I the said Elizabeth or Betty Hemingway have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight.

Mary and Elizabeth Hemingway the daughters and executrixes named within the Will of Elizabeth or Betty Hemingway late of Cawthorne in the Diocese of York Widow deceased were duly sworn before me this 27th day of July 1791

A Declaration instead of an Inventory of all and singular the goods chattels credits and personal estate of Elizabeth Hemingway late of Cawthorne in the County of York widow deceased made by her daughters Mary and Elizabeth Hemingway the Executrixes ordained and appointed in and by the last Will and Testament of the said deceased. The said Executrixes declare that to the best of their knowledge and belief the said personal effects at the time of her death would not amount to the sum of thirty pounds
